Newsletter- Summer 2006
Since the May 27, 2006 conference, we are meeting many
passionate people who want to improve the health care system and beginning to
review the advice we have received. We are particularly encouraged by
the large number of conference attendees who want to participate on committees
and by their overwhelming support for CQH to have another conference.
What is
Happening Next?
The CQH Board met and decided on the following action
plan:
- Over
the course of the summer months, we will organize and engage the volunteers
for the Policy Committee to develop a policy on how recommendations are to
be reviewed and approved by CQH as an organization. The policy will
then guide the efforts of other committees should they bring recommendations
to be endorsed by CQH for distribution to the media, government and
membership.
- In
September, 2006 we will have an organizational meeting with those CQH
members who want to work on various committees. Note that attendance
at the May 27 Conference has automatically provided you with an annual
membership.
- Currently
the Board is reviewing and prioritizing approximately 20 various action
items to determine which ones we can pursue with our current capabilities.
The list includes initiation of a medical advisory board.
- CHQ
has initiated work on fundraising to assist with current administrative
costs and to potentially retain a part-time executive director.
- We
are following up on key contacts received by CQH from the conference and by
word of mouth. Two CQH Board members have already met with the Calgary
Health Region and another CQH Board member attended a presentation by the
Canadian Minister of Health, Tony Clement.
We look forward to seeing our new volunteers this
September. Have a wonderfully healthy summer.
